Hi and Welcome

Welcome to my little corner of the Internet. Every night, before the kids go to sleep, they ask me to tell them a story. Not being a big fan of books myself and not wanting to repeat the same books over and over again, I went for a more imaginative approach and started making up my own stories based on what the kids wanted a story about. My eldest, now 9, was really into 'Everything's Rosie', a program on kids TV, so always wanted stories based around those characters. My youngest, now 3, is really into trucks, motorbikes, football, etc. So always wants stories based around them. What I try to do is make up stories that also have a moral ending, an updated version of 'The boy who cried wolf' for example, or one with a valuable lesson, like how to cross the road safely and not like the naughty little duckling in my latest story to them. In this blog, I will try to remember and document some of the stories from the past and hopefully, come up with...

The Flippy, Floppy Frog

Once upon a time... A long, long, long, long, long, long, long time ago... There was a flippy, floppy frog called... Phillip! Now, Phillip was known throughout the whole land as being the best, flippiest, floppiest frog in the kingdom and was the world champion flippy flopper. The problem was though, that he was a big show off. Every chance he got, he was showing off, flipping and flopping in all sorts of places to whoever would watch. One day, Phillip was flipping and flopping down the street, just because he could, and came across his arch rival flippy flopper, Fredrick. Phillip, being such a show off, started flipping and flopping even higher and faster down the street then just as he got close, did the biggest double flip flop he could and landed right in front of Fredrick. 'Ta-da!' Phillip shouted with his arms in the air. 'Hi' said Fredrick. 'How are you?' 'Is that it?' Exclaimed Phillip. 'I bet you couldn't do that!' F...

Pinkies in Trouble

Once upon a time... A long, long, long, long, long, long, long time ago... There was a tiny, little mouse called.... Percy Pink. Now Percy was a very good little mouse but he was also a very bored little mouse because all he ever had to do was look after his even tinier, little brother Pedro. Percy and Pedro lived with their mom and dad in a tiny little hole inside a really big house. All around the house were other tiny little holes with other tiny little mouse families. There were the Dips, the Dops, the Meeps and the Mops. But there was also someone else who lived in the big house... Carlos the Cat. Every day, all the mommies and daddies went out to try and gather food, leaving all the little pinky mice to play. They all played really nicely together but had to be careful in case Carlos came wondering around. Luckily, the mommies and daddies had set up a warning signal. They had tied a piece of string across the door with a little tiny bell that would ring if Carlos came in. ...

Squeeze's New Shoes

Once upon a time .... a long, long, long, long, long, long, long time ago ... there was a young, little panda named ..... Squeeze. Now Squeeze was no ordinary panda, she was the brightest little panda in her class.  She was kind and gentle and was always the first up to help others.  She really was wonderful in every way. One day, Squeeze came home from school after having such an amazing day playing and learning that she was absolutely pooped!  She sat in her little panda chair, kicked off her shoes and sighed.  'I'm sooooo tired' she said, 'what's for tea?' Mommy Panda was in the kitchen and didn't hear Squeeze's question.  'WHAT'S FOR TEA?' Squeeze shouted at the top of her voice.  That wasn't like Squeeze at all.  'What's all this noise?' Daddy Panda said as he came down the stairs, 'it's not nice to shout.  If you have a question for someone, you have to go and ask nicely.' 'Sorry, I'm just r...

Harvey's First Day

Once upon a time... A long, long, long, long, long, long, long time ago... There was a big dog called.... Harvey. Now, although Harvey looked like a big, mean and scary dog to most, he was actually the nicest, kindest dog you could ever meet. One day, Harvey woke up from having the most wonderful dream, to his daddy calling him to get ready for his first day at school. Harvey had never been to a big school before, he'd only ever been to the playgroup with his little friends. School seemed so scary and he really didn't want to go so he pulled the covers up over his head and tried to hide. 'Come on, Harvey. We're going to be late.' called his dad from the bathroom. Harvey got out from under the covers, because he was a good lad, and went into the bathroom. His dad was was standing there with a toothbrush in one paw and a big hairbrush in the other.' Now brush your teeth' he said, 'and I'll brush your hair. We don't want you turning up fo...

Monster Goes Missing

Once upon a time... A long, long, long, long, long, long, long time ago... There was a young monster called.... Jaxon. Now, one day, Jaxon and his monster mommy had to go on a shopping trip to buy some new clothes. On the way, they stopped to pick up monster nanny too because she really wanted to buy a new hat. They got to the shopping centre, got out of the car, crossed the car park and went into the lift because monster nanny had poorly knees and couldn't walk up the steps. The doors of the lift opened into a huge shopping centre with so many shops that they couldn't decide which shop to go into first. Monster nanny wanted the hat shop, monster mommy wanted the dress shop and little monster Jaxon wanted the toy shop... And a milkshake... And some chicken nuggets and chips... And a new ball... And some new pyjamas... And a dog... And some biscuits. So monster mommy decided that because she had driven there that she was going to her shop first. They were in there...

The Nearly Squished Ducking

Once upon a time ... A long, long, long, long, long, long, long, time ago ... There was a little duckling called ..... Squidge. Now, Squidge was the youngest duckling and had 4 older brothers, Harry, Barry, Larry and Bob. One day, their mommy wanted to take them to visit their friends house, who they hadn't seen for a very long time because they lived on another pond on the other side of a very busy road. They swam to the bank, climbed out, waddled up the hill and stopped at the edge of the road. 'Right then' mommy duck said 'because this road is so busy I'm going to go first and show you all how to cross safely.' She looked right ... Then she looked left ... Then right.... Then left ... Then right again and only when she was sure that nothing was coming, she started to cross the road. As she waddled across, she kept on looking right, then left, then right, then left, then right, left, right, left, right left right left until she got all the way to ...
